Terms of use

The terms this free tool is offered under, and what you remain responsible for.

ImageInKB is a free tool that compresses images to a size you choose, using only your own browser. These are the terms it is offered under.

What the service does

It re-encodes an image you select so that the resulting file fits under a size limit you specify. All processing happens on your device. We do not receive, store or process your files.

Check the result before you submit it

Compression is lossy: the output is deliberately not identical to your original. When a target size is very small, the tool may also reduce the image dimensions, and it tells you when it has. You are responsible for checking that the result meets the requirements of whatever form or authority you are submitting it to. Requirements differ between forms and change over time, and we cannot verify them for you. The compressor at the bottom of this page is the same one the terms describe — you can re-run a file and inspect the result without leaving here.

Guidance on this site is informational

Pages describing document photo requirements collect figures that applicants commonly encounter. They are not an official source, they are not legal advice, and they may be out of date. The authoritative figure is the one printed on the application page you are filling in.

No warranty

The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that it is free of faults, that it will be available at any particular time, or that a given image can be brought under a given size while remaining usable — some cannot.

Keep your originals

The tool never modifies the file you selected, but compression cannot be undone once you have replaced an original with a compressed copy. Keep your originals.

Changes

These terms may change. Substantive changes to how the site works are recorded on the what changed page, with dates.

Your photo never leaves this tab. The resizing happens inside your own browser — nothing is uploaded to us, and we cannot see the file.
