Privacy
What this site does and does not collect. Your images are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
The short version: your images are never sent to us. We do run Google Analytics, but only if you allow it — the bar at the bottom of the screen asks first, and until you say yes this site makes no request to Google at all. There is no advertising on this site.
Your images
Images you open in the compressor are processed entirely by your own browser. They are not uploaded, not stored, and not seen by us at any point — there is no upload request in the page. You can verify this yourself: open your browser’s network inspector and compress a file. Nothing carrying the image leaves the tab.
The compressed result is created in your browser’s memory and discarded when you close or reload the page. We keep no copy because we never receive one.
Metadata in your photos
Camera files often carry EXIF metadata including GPS coordinates, timestamp and device model. The compressed file this tool produces does not carry any of it: the image is redrawn without metadata. The single exception is the orientation flag, which is applied so portrait photos stay upright, and then discarded too.
Cookies
Reading pages sets one small cookie of ours, and only after you answer the
question at the bottom of the screen: it records your answer, so that you are
not asked again. One technical session cookie
(PHPSESSID) is created only on the contact page,
because the message form needs it to protect against forged submissions. It
contains no personal data and expires with your browser session. There are no
advertising cookies.
Google Analytics, and your choice about it
We use Google Analytics 4
(property G-C718MC8ZFZ) to see which
pages get opened and how many people open them. Google is a third party. It works
by setting two cookies of its own —
_ga and
_ga_C718MC8ZFZ, counted in
a browser rather than recalled from memory — and by sending Google the address of
each page you open here, along with your approximate location, browser and device
type. Ours is one more: the cookie that records your answer to the question.
It never sees your image. That is not a promise about Google's behaviour — it is a consequence of how the tool works: the file is never uploaded anywhere, so there is nothing about it to send.
It does not load until you allow it. Press “No thanks” on the bar and no request goes to Google, ever — check the network tab and see for yourself. Your answer, either way, is remembered so the bar stops asking. To be asked again, clear this site's data with the button at the bottom of this page.
If you write to us
The contact form sends us the message you type and the email address you provide, so that we can reply. We use it for the reply and nothing else — no mailing list, no sharing with anyone.
Server logs
Like any web server, ours records requests: the page requested, time, IP address and browser string. These records exist to keep the site working and to investigate faults. They never contain your images, because your images never reach the server.
Clearing what is stored in your browser
The only thing this site keeps in your browser is your dismissal of the cookie notice. You can remove it here, and the notice will appear again on your next visit.
